Duncraig Early Learning Centre Philosophy

At Duncraig Early Learning Centre we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land upon which the Centre is based, the Noongar Wadjuk people. We pay respect to the elders both past and present. We also extend that respect to all other Aboriginal nations, the future generations and their continued connection to country. We will continue to build our knowledge and understanding of cultures, specifically of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history through our reconciliation action plan (RAP). We are committed to building partnerships to support and create opportunities for indigenous people within our organisation.

We believe children have the right to be, belong and become, and we are committed to providing an engaging, safe, calm and nurturing environment in which children may develop holistically in a positive way. We also believe it important to give opportunities for children to develop their emotional intelligence and resilience to scaffold strong self identities in a ever-changing world.

Duncraig Early Learning Centre (DELC) aims to provide early childhood education by adopting a range of philosophical perspectives whilst implementing the national Early Years Learning Framework. We endeavour to provide a curriculum that is inclusive, promotes opportunities for each individual and creates an environment that cherishes the uniqueness of each child and their family. The children will experience the stories and symbols of their own and other cultures.

We aim to focus strongly on experiences related to the child’s interests and recognise the importance of play based learning. Our dedicated and committed educators can determine the relevant pedagogy to deliver a high-quality curriculum, which caters to the individual needs of all children. We will remain open to our own continuous learning to ensure continuous improvement and that the delivery and provision of the pedagogy remains innovative, contemporary and theoretically based. The aim is to provide a curriculum that promotes imagination, a thirst for learning and provides opportunities for wonder and exploration.

At DELC we are committed to a sustainable future. We aim to do this by providing children the opportunity to interact with nature and by incorporating sustainable practices into our programs as part of our everyday practices including a strong belief that nature is the third teacher.

The centre promotes an ‘open door policy’ by encouraging and welcoming visits and regular feedback from children, families and the local community. We aim to be a useful resource and network centre on all issues relating to children and families which can be accessed by DELC families and staff when needed. Duncraig Early Learning Centre recognises the value and importance of early childhood education and works in a partnership with families and the community to ensure the wellbeing of the children within our program. We will provide an environment where connecting links with the family and wider world are affirmed and extended. We believe that partnerships are reciprocal and value each person’s contribution to the child’s life.

Parent Participation

Parents are our biggest support! Their encouragement and any assistance, in whatever way, coming to a parent night, collecting bits and pieces, help with fundraising, helping at busy bees, would be invaluable assistance.

We do require every family to donate 2 hours of their time a year to volunteer at the Centre. We have a wide range of task to choose from and we are always open to new ideas.

To give the children the best opportunity for development, child care staff and parents work hand in hand. We want to children to gain the best that is possible from our Centre, so please do keep in touch and discuss your joy, problems, concerns and feelings with the staff on a regular basis.
